Spending your summer holidays doing an internship can be a fantastic way to gain new skills, learn more about the field you may want to study in university, make new friends, and even travel abroad. Here are five summer internships - ranging from online to international - that you can consider for yourself!

1. Global/Remote Internship (Global Virtual Program)

The Global Virtual Program offers remote internship opportunities for high school students that can be done from the comfort of your own home, alongside your studies. There is a wide range of remote options for you to choose from, including finance, journalism, and working for an NGO. The program offers ongoing support and workshops throughout, and you can choose the length of the program (4-24 weeks). Applications are open on a rolling basis throughout the year. This is one of the least competitive programs out there and has received great reviews, with many interns going on to land jobs at top firms.

2. New York Summer Internship

If you've always wanted to spend your summer in the Big Apple, this is the internship for you. The Intern Group and New York Interns offer an internship program that can be tailored to your career goals and aspirations, and you can choose the duration you'd like to stay. Start dates are available each month from August onwards, and prices vary according to whether you want a roommate, your own place, or already have somewhere to stay. In your application, you'll need to submit a written statement, resume, parental consent, be fluent in English, and answer questions about why you should be selected as an intern in this fantastic program.

The program costs $5,400 for the fortnight, which includes tuition, housing, course materials, use of facilities, two off-campus weekend socials, and class field trips. Leading experts in the industries will be on-hand to give you advice and support in embarking on a career in sports and entertainment. Applications are currently closed for this intake, but be sure to keep it on your radar for 2024!
