This summer, focus on stories that matter. A hands-on intensive for socially conscious filmmakers.




Creating media that is socially responsible and highly effective, students in this four-week intensive introductory film program will gain insight into the process of collaborative content creation and an overview of media literacy. Elevate your knowledge of filmmaking from one of the best film schools in the United States.
In weeks one and two, students will be placed into working groups, receiving in-class instruction as well as hands-on lab experience for a full overview of the filmmaking process. Topics include workshops in writing, casting, directing and editing. Groups will also be assigned roles and begin pre-production work on their final film project. In week three, groups will begin production on their final film with the final week focused on editing and post-production. The program will conclude with a screening of student work for friends and family.
Students who successfully complete this program will receive college credit.
Social Impact Filmmaking is a residential program on LMU's Los Angeles-area campus. There are no commuter options at this time - all participants are required to live on campus for the duration of their program.
Los Angeles Area Excursion
Students enrolled in the Social Impact Filmmaking course will have the opportunity to tour a local film or television studio.
Program Outcomes:
- Create stories that are socially responsible;
- Learn to collaborate with peers;
- Gain a basic understanding of the filmmaking process.
Earn 3-units of college credit on successful completion of this program.
Students must have completed junior year of high school by the start of summer 2023 to attend.

Tuition and Fees
Application Fee: $65
2023 Program Cost: $9,500
The program cost includes:
- Tuition for on-campus four-week, credit-bearing course
- Housing and meals for four weeks
- Course materials
- Use of campus recreation facilities
- Class field trips
- Weekend social trips off campus
Application Fee: A $65 non-refundable application fee is due to the Summer Programs office to complete your application. Application Fees can be paid online using a credit card or via personal check payable to Loyola Marymount University.
Enrollment Deposit: A non-refundable deposit of $350 must be submitted once a student has been notified of his or her acceptance into the program. Enrollment deposits can be paid online with credit card or via personal check, payable to Loyola Marymount University. To ensure their spot in the program, deposits are due no later than two weeks after a student's acceptance into his or her program.
Program Balance: The final balance must be paid in full no later than Thursday, June 1, 2023. Program balances can be paid with credit card or via personal check, payable to Loyola Marymount University.
Financial Aid
Application fee waivers are granted rarely and only in extreme circumstances.
