New York University's STEP (Science and Technology Entry Program) is a 5 week, non-credit, innovative pre-college enrichment program for talented and motivated middle and high school students in NYC.
NYU's Science and Technology Entry Program (STEP) prepares New York middle and high school students for academic and career success through immersive courses and workshops on a variety of STEM subjects.
Led by NYU faculty and co-taught by NYU students, STEP offers enrichment classes, college admissions preparation workshops, project-based learning, research opportunities, and mentorship.
Through STEP, students increase their college readiness and their competitiveness for admission to selective degree programs. STEP is designed to encourage and increase the number of historically under-represented minority groups in the science, technology, engineering, math (STEM) careers, health-related fields and licensed professions.
On-campus, commuter. Students participate in classes and program activities Monday-Thursday from 9 AM to 3 PM.
Enrichment Classes
Morning enrichment classes focus on typical secondary school curriculum. Math classes include Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry, Pre-Calculus, Calculus AB, and Calculus BC. Students are also required to take an English Seminar, which develops student's ability to express themselves in writing as well as think critically about what they read.
Research
STEP gives several talented 11th and 12th graders each year the opportunity to conduct scientific or technological research at NYU facilities. Students are later given the chance to present their research and findings at the annual STEP State Conference in Albany, NY.
Project Classes
Afternoon elective classes incorporate hands-on techniques and inter-disciplinary themes to connect students to real world opportunities in Internet technologies, art and design, engineering, publishing, clinical medicine, and math and science careers.
College Prep
STEP provides a range of program services specifically tailored to Junior and Senior students looking to gain admission to top colleges in the New York area and beyond. Encompassing college test prep, career exploration seminars, and panel discussions with practicing professionals, STEP ensures that our students are ready to take the next step towards a great career.
