The Penn Summer Global Institute allows you to choose courses from the School of Arts and Sciences that complement your academic path. Along with classes, students benefit from Penn's range of exceptional resources, including academic advising, world-renowned facilities, and top-rated instructors.
Students may choose any two courses from our Summer Session II offerings. Our summer courses cover topics as diverse as behavioral psychology, microeconomics, decision theory, astronomy, literature, and neurobiology. Once you’ve browsed the course information, you can contact your advisor for further advice on selecting your courses. For courses that have prerequisites, we will help you determine what course is right for you.

You also experience the cultural and social features of living on campus in Philadelphia, as well as the city’s proximity to other major cities on the east coast. Penn arranges exciting local cultural and historic excursions during your stay in Philadelphia.

Format

Living on campus is an essential part of the Penn experience. Your air-conditioned and furnished suites are conveniently located at the heart of our urban campus and the residence halls are staffed 24 hours a day. You also have the option to enroll in a summer dining plan which allows you to eat at our all-you-care-to-eat dining halls as well as various retail locations on campus.

Program Details

Extracurricular events: Philadelphia is bursting with festivities during the summer months. The city is home to some of the nation’s top museums and is famed for its performing arts, dining, athletic, and recreational destinations. There are several extracurricular activities planned for you, like a visit to the Philadelphia Museum of Art, a Phillies baseball game, and more.

As well as having the opportunity to explore the vibrant and historic city of Philadelphia, you can be in New York by bus or train within two hours and in Washington, DC, within three hours.

All applicants are required to submit the following materials. Please note that all application materials become the property of the University of Pennsylvania and will not be returned. Remember to retain a personal copy of your application.

- Completed online application
- Official transcripts from each college and/or university attended, with English translation and US equivalencies sent directly from the home institution
- TOEFL/IELTS scores - International applicants whose primary language of instruction is not English must submit official TOEFL or IELTS scores. The minimum scores for consideration are 100 TOEFL IBT/7 IELTS.
- Application essay
- Letter of recommendation
- $75 non-refundable application fee

Tuition and fees are subject to the approval of the Board of Trustees of the University of Pennsylvania and may change without notice.

On-campus students will be charged an all-inclusive program fee. This program fee includes:

  • Two courses
  • Housing in a double room
  • Half-day student orientation
  • Weekly extracurricular activities
  • Access to student academic advisor

The estimated all-inclusive program fee for summer 2024 is $13,765.

 

Financial Aid

For visiting undergraduates interested in Penn Summer Sessions, financial aid may be available through your home institution. Current Penn students should contact Student Financial Services regarding financial aid for Summer Session courses. Undergraduates from other US colleges or universities interested in Penn Summer should contact their home institution regarding available financial aid options.
